…But It’s Never Too Late

To Make a CHANGE!   2008127 ScrapFX Clock Face Heart One of the great things about This Life is that it is possible to realize the errors of our ways and change them if we want.  It is not always an easy thing to do but it is always worthwhile. Sometimes we will come up with a host of reasons not to change and in many cases we won’t alter our course. When that happens though… it’s because we decided to let it be that way. While we can not alter what has happened we have a lot of influence over how we react to what is happening now.

Change the Past – Not a Chance. Change the Present – Act Now…Don’t Hesitate. Change the Future – ???.

Remember You Are the Star of Your Show but You Didn’t Write the Script.

Onward & Upward…

Right now, I am a little tired from shepherding dreams into reality.  I don’t doubt for a moment that the effort is worth the trouble but I need a respite. There’s not really anyone to carry on the particular tasks if I take a little break. Probably I  don’t even have the energy to try to explain what the job would entail. So what can I do? Continue until I can take break in that place with no space or time. I’ve become very fond of that place.

Thought I was living “the good life”… following “the right path”. I must have done some “not so nice” things along the way because it’s tough on the old boy now.  If what goes around comes around I wish I missed that boat.  Obviously, that wasn’t in The Plan. I wasn’t raised to quit – even though I need the break. You never know about karma. It simply IS!

That’s the deal …that’s life. I live and don’t let go. It’s the bent my nature. …and nature is divine.

Not far from here there will be an exit ramp. I’ll take it.  I’ll go… to that place with no space or time. It will all be fine. I’ll stay there as long as I should. Maybe I’ll take another entrance ramp and …but wait got to go now!  I see my sign approaching.

My journey continues…

and so it goes…

We Dwell in My Heart

toward something new

I AM like a 90-minute cassette trying to record the 91st minute of music – so full that I am now empty; old technology but still workable. Change is necessary as I continue. I AM a full yet empty vessel in the process of self-transformation.

I AM taught to remain calm because this is not unlike the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly. At a certain point the caterpillar feels impelled to wrap itself in a cocoon. Immobile, it begins to dissolve. There is no sense of a marvelous new life that is coming; there is only the dissolving of the old, and the deep fears that accompany this. The caterpillar literally turns into a kind of goo, and only from that annihilation of the old form can the magnificent new form of the butterfly emerge.

I have excellent teachers and get a sense of this radical process of self-transformation from them – those who have experienced it. They provide guidance as I go through this process.

I recognize that self-transformation doesn’t just happen. It is part of my journey on The Path. It is an outgrowth of steps I have taken at the Edge of my Dream. Previous posts outline my evolution (or is it devolution?). Insha’Allah I will emerge from this process as a new being – although I can’t be sure of the form. The caterpillar to butterfly story is only a metaphor.

I AM bearing with me…

He who knows men is clever;

He who knows himself has insight;

He who conquers men has force;

He who conquers himself is truly strong;

He who knows when he has got enough is rich;

And he who adheres assiduously to the path of Tao is a man of steady purpose.

He who stays where he has found his true home endures long,

And he who dies but perishes not enjoys real longevity.

The Essence Remains Intact while Self-Transformation IS in Process

At a court banquet, everyone was sitting according to their rank, waiting for the king to appear. A simply dressed man came in and took a seat above everyone else.  The prime minister demanded that he identify himself.

“Are you the advisor of a great king?”

“No, I rank above a royal advisor.”

“Are you a prime minister?”

“No, I outrank a prime minister.”

“Are you a king in disguise?”

“No I am above that rank as well.”

“Then you must be God!” shouted the prime minister said sarcastically.

“No, I am above that.”

“There is nothing above God!” shouted the prime minister.

The stranger replied calmly, “Now you know me. That nothing is me.”

Traditional Sufism

I AM in the midst of a transitory period characterized by a Great Aspiration.  The life that claims me is exhilarating and rewarding.  In all honesty, more can not be asked or expected.

In this life I AM many things to many people. I AM son, father, husband, friend, lover, teacher, student, leader, follower… the list goes on.  I AM Blessed. Insha’Allah I will continue in these various roles as I AM is transformed to “NOTHING”.

I now aspire to be that NOTHING.

Insha’ Allah, I AM becoming…

edge of a dream

Lately I have been encouraging friends to journey toward the edge of their dreams. The phrase comes to me from an old Minnie Ripperton song, but it has contemporary implications.  We can experience amazing phenomena at the edges of dreams.  These are the places from which we are able to glimpse paradise and conceive new realities. These glimpses present glorious opportunities as we sojourn on The Path.

We’ve discussed “Living the Dream” and considered “Expecting a Miracle.”  Edge of a Dream takes our journey a little further. This phase begins with the yet to be conceived. It can be a little unsettling and we may feel unsteady, but the discomfort is so worthwhile.  This is a Faith Walk that can take us beyond anything that we have ever imagined.

Although we continue to function on this plane, managing our day-to-day issues and taking one step at a time, WE ARE, in fact, advancing into previously uncharted territory.  WE ARE moving on faith…faith in ourselves, faith in what we know, and most importantly faith that WE ARE finely tuned, divinely inspired instruments. As we recognize and analyze life experiences and incorporate Lessons Learned we soon accept that WE ARE ready and our world awaits us.

We have practiced our entire lives for this stage.  The weights that we have worn “in training” can now be removed.  Our personal repertoires now include the skills and expertise that we will need for this leg of the journey. WE ARE equipped!  WE ARE superbly prepared! Believe me.  Believe in yourself.

It is normal to have doubts…cast them off. As obstacles are presented…bypass them. When faced with a chasm …build a bridge. When challenged by an enemy…call a friend. When struggling with uncertainty…rely on faith.  When in need of inspiration…look around and glimpse paradise. It is at hand.

We’ll rest when we need to and advance when we want to.  We can enjoy it all. We’ve not come this far to settle for less. The Edge of a Dream is exhilarating. We are ordinary people empowered to do extraordinary things when we believe, conceive, and proceed.  We each have this capacity. Exert it! Faith in Action takes us beyond.

I have been taught that we are “never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true.” Once that wish is clarified we are divinely equipped to realize it if we work for it.

Looking forward to visiting at the next reflecting pond.

A Few of the Many

Life is plagued with adversity yet I continue to voice optimism.  This underscores an amazing step in my evolution.  I was once a singed idealist turned cynic.  I’ve changed now.  I just AM.  It just IS.  I like myself and my world better this way.  I AM a simple man – living, learning, and loving.

Has this come with maturity? Maybe. It’s true I’m getting older but I am not near ready to be a “wise old sage”.  People frequently come by to visit but they don’t even think about “sitting at my feet” to collect “pearls of wisdom.”  Many times they find me sitting on the ground with children on my lap and sand on my feet.  Friends know that I don’t have anything to sell and there’s no sales pitch to fend off.  They’ve already got all that I have (if they really want it). It’s here, there, and can be everywhere. They, like you, have a Spiritual Claim Check. It need only be identified and redeemed. The Redemption Center is within.

…truth be told, I am optimistic but I’m not naive. I’ve been around the block more than a few times.   I’ve had my share of  great days, glorious nights, and  times I’d rather forget.  I’ve paid my tuition and gained some knowledge in return. My teachers have not always been kind but they have been thorough. Through it all I’ve learned a lot. I continue to do.

Here’s a Few of the Lessons Learned:

  • It doesn’t pay to worry.  Worry doesn’t affect the situation.  It only burdens the worrier.  Try not to subject yourself to it.
  • Think about what you will do in advance and don’t allow yourself to dwell on the results later.  Think about the next step.
  • If you don’t know where you’re going any road will take you there.  This is not a smart way to travel.
  • Build in time for rest and rejuvenation.  Tasks don’t get tired but people do.  Refresh yourself routinely.
  • You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true  …you will have to work for it though.
  • Holding a grudge is letting someone live rent free in your head.  Few of us can afford that kind of tenant.
  • Don’t live to make others happy.  If you live to promote your happiness those who share your world will be happy.
  • Fill your cup with love and it will have no room for hate.
  • Material poverty can be rectified by providing some thing but a greedy person can never have enough.  Avoid greed.
  • Do what you should do when you should do it.  Refuse to do what you should not do. When it is not clear wait until your are sure.
  • Just as the sight of someone eating will not appease your hunger, the spiritual experiences of others can not satisfy your yearning.
  • Asking good questions is half of learning.
  • There are as many ways to God as there are created souls.
  • When you feel like…

The Weight of the World is on Your Shoulders…

HE has the Your World in His Hands. You only need to do your part.

  • Ask, Believe, & Receive!
